Sleigh Bells – Crown On The Ground

So the connection to this one, from Sunshine by Rye Rye and MIA, is that both of these beauties were featured on the incredible soundtrack to the fucking fantastic film The Bling Ring.

This one opens the film, and is in the trailer, and if you’ve not seen the film just go and watch the film, mate, it’s incredible. We loved it.

So a big part of our affection for this song is from the film. But also, it’s a great song. A good fucking racket with a bit of a sing song. Ideal.

Set set that crown on the ground and-ah come to LGN XYZ

Rye Rye – Sunshine

Hey look, we made it to LINK FOUR on this rip-off of The Chain. (Behind the scenes secret: only because we scheduled all these in advance on Saturday. This is the last one we’re scheduling, so let’s see if we bother after this!)

From Elastica and a song that ended up in a slightly different form on their second album, to this! The connection, natch, is MIA, who was apparently encouraged into music whilst fannying about in the Caribbean with Justine Frischmann (having done artwork for that second album!) FUN FACT.

Good song, this, and not on Spotify for some reason. Enjoy. xoxo

Take it down, yeah yeah take it down, at LGN XYZ

Elastica – How He Wrote Elastica Man

Predictable slide from Klang to Elastica. Soz, guys. Soz.

BUT not a first album song! A second album song.

BUT not the second album version, because it turns out they rerecorded it and it sounds all wrong to our ears. Because we never had the second album, but we did have the 6 Track EP, and this is off of it. Enjoy.

Just realised this also has a spelling connection! Didn’t consciously think of that. Wow, eh?

(The next link will not be The Fall. We don’t really know The Fall.)

Spell! LGN XYZ “LGN XYZ”

Klang – L.O.V.E

Day two, our first link, and it’s already not a music video. But it’s a good song.

Beat Of My Drum had the refrain “L! O! V! E!” and this has the refrain, and indeed title, “L. O. V. E.” There you go. That’s the link. A solid, if simple link.

Good song, this. From your Donna out of Elastica after they split, and later than we thought – 2003, it says here. Guess we were still listening to the Evening Session in 2003.

What could the next link be, oh oh oh, it’s a lazy one and there may be a clue above! Tune in tomorrow to find out!

(Spoiler: it will be Elastica.)

L! G! N! X! Y! Z!

Nicola Roberts – Beat Of My Drum

Hello there. We’re wholesale copying The Chain from Mark Radcliffe & Stuart Maconie’s 6 Music show, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Soz guys.

We’ll be serving you an ongoing list of smashes right into your eyes and lugholes, through the medium of music video (or, you know, YouTube or whatever embeds of music without much of a video), the next linked to the former in some sort of fashion.

This is the first. Beat Of My Drum by Nicola Roberts out of your Girls Aloud. No particular reason why this is the first, it just is. Good song, innit? It is.

Come and dance to the beat of your drum at LGN XYZ
